How to smell like: The Spirit of Spring

How to smell like: The Spirit of Spring

The vibe: Vibrant green springing forth from the earth. Forceful, yet delicate. Sap-sweet. Ferns damp with dew. A carpet of moss, soft underfoot. The slow breaths of spring as everything unfurls. Beginnings. Regeneration.

If the essence of spring is what you’re looking for, you might find yourself in the following scents:

Moss Maiden

Fern, damp undergrowth, moss accord, fresh water, and a light citrus blend.

Designed with exactly this sort of springtime spirit in mind, Moss Maiden would be an excellent choice. The scent is bright and green, sweet, but not cloying. No strong floral or earth notes in this. It’s all green, all the time, and is a best-seller for a reason.

Bigfoot

Pine needle tea, ozone accord, citron, juniper, white fig, vetiver, cedar, blue spruce, musk, and a touch of eucalyptus and mint.

A pine-centered green fragrance that stays fresh and doesn’t go all Christmas-y. The mild mint note keeps this one a little unexpected. It’s springtime, but in a forest instead of a meadow. Also a bit more traditionally masculine in profile.

Tornado Green

Windswept leaves and leaning pine trees, black currant, rose oxide, elemi resin, amber, plum lemonade, and distant rain.

The epitome of the stormy springtime of the Midwest. Sweet-tart fruit mixed with greenery, doused in rain and ozone. This scent is light enough to easily transition from spring into humid summer. A favorite across all genders.

If you're looking for something a little less green, you might enjoy the following two fragrances. They're also great for layering with others on this list.

Freshly Turned Earth

Fresh, damp earth, with just a hint of green rootiness.

Freshly Turned Earth is a single-note scent that's perfect for layering. It can add depth and earthiness to a fragrance, and can counteract sweeter notes. It’s also excellent on its own, with almost patchouli-like nuances.

Sweet Mother

Lush moss, blooming lilac, French lavender, rose, jasmine, mandarin and lemon zest, warm musk, and lily of the valley.

Far more floral than anything else on this list, but with green notes that make it a good partner for springtime layering. Sweet Mother is like Moss Maiden’s purpley little sister. Still sweet, still very spring, but with a focus on the blooms instead of the greenery.

We hope you’re able to get out and enjoy the returning warmth this spring. It’s high time we let our weirdness fully bloom. What are your favorite springtime scents?
